Fireside Chat - Gimme Sum - Omar RBMA Special

Omar

Tru Thoughts, UK

After a five-year recording hiatus - during which he built his own studio, set up his own label and toured like a madman - the one and only Omar is back with a two hour RBMA special presented by the man himself. A seminal figure in the ever-evolving British soul movement, Omar has been making music since the age of 14 when his first single 'Mr.Postman' came out on Kongo Records. With six albums under his belt and working hard on number seven, Omar has collaborated with a number of premier artists, including legendary songwriter Lamont Dozier, Angie Stone, David Frank, Derek Bramble, Leon Ware, Ray Parker Jr., Ol' Dirty Bastard, Meshell N'degeocello, Caron Wheeler, Mica Paris, Maxi Priest, Common and, most recently, Maddslinky aka Zed Bias. His single 'There's Nothing Like This' was a benchmark for the acid jazz era, proving Omar to have the melodic million-dollar touch, while the album of the same title remains a British soul classic. This RBMA show celebrates his album entitled 'Sing (If You Want It)' released on Ether in 2006, and re-released on Tru Thoughts in 2011, containing collaborations a dime a dozen: Stevie Wonder, Angie Stone, Common, Rodney P, Ashman, Estelle and JC Bentley. Hold tight!
