Quentin Dupieux is a film director who also makes electronic music under the name Mr. Oizo. Best known for the chart topping song 'Flat Beat' and the featuring puppet Flat Eric, which achieved worldwide renown as the soundtrack to a set of Levis commercials (also directed by Dupieux). At heart, Dupieux's music is hip hop. Cutting and slicing samples, chopping beats, searching for the young bass rebels and all that other malarkey is what he is a champion in. Ed Banger might not have been possible without Daft Punk, but Oizo definitely played a vital role as well. Now wonder that after releasing 2 albums on F Communications, Mr. Oizo's latest long-player arrives on Ed Banger records. Entitled 'Lamb's Anger' it's cover pays tribute to French surrealist film-maker Luis Bunuel and features a character that looks a little like Flat Eric being attacked with a cut throat razor. Featuring a crafty remake of Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock's 'It Takes 2', it packs a considerable dance-floor punch. In this edition of Headphone Highlights, Mr. Oizo shows that his influences are broader than Broadway.
