Nightmares on Wax is the alter-ego of DJ, Sample Enthusiast and Producer George Evelyn. Born in 1970 and growing up in Leeds, George was once known as DJ EASE (Experimental Sample Expert), and started Nightmares on Wax as a duo with Kevin Harper who he met when joining a local breakdance crew. Together they released their first album in 1991, a techno-edged record entitled 'A Word Of Science: The First And Final Chapter'. It wasn't until 1995 that Nightmares on Wax released another album, the legendary 'Smoker's Delight' on Warp records, by which time Harper had left to pursue a career in DJ-ing, reducing the band to a solo project. Heavily influenced by hip hop, Nightmares on Wax was always a soulful, sample based affair but more recently began to involve more guest musicians and vocalists as George developed the live incarnation of Nightmares on Wax.
