We can imagine Evgeny Gavrilov’s Dyad project dating back to a time of tribal gatherings, a dark civilisation where heavy bass rattled over the earth’s empty spaces. A graduate of the Novosibirsk music school, he also performs with indietronic outfit FPRF Project, combining turbine hum with tributes to classics of indie rock, electronica and dubstep. But it’s the laptop chemistry of Dyad that sets our minds wandering. Amidst the unique drum patterns, tones and textures is an unmistakable atmosphere, a postcard from when drum ‘n’ bass dinosaurs roamed the plains, clashing with the titans of techno.
