Cristian Vogel’s CV reads a bit like a condensed history of contemporary music. Studies of 20th century music? Check. Pioneering releases on labels like Mille Plateaux, Novamute and Tresor since the early ‘90s? Check. Taking pop music to mind warping extremes? See Super_Collider. Composing music for dance pieces while simultaneously starting an indie rock band, running a studio in Barcelona and founding a bunch of labels along the way? Check, check and double check. And while we’re at it, let’s not forget production work for the likes of Chicks On Speed. Maybe the Academy will be our chance to see how he squeezes more than 24 hours into a day. But before that he found some time for a quick chat about his approach to his projects, including a book of poetry, 9:09, that he’s just released.
