The ways of the man by the name of Thomas Fehlmann could easily fill a book. Born 1957 in Switzerland, Fehlmann ended up in Hamburg 22 years later, co-founded the ground-breaking New Wave group Palais Schaumburg alongside Holger Hiller, and finally moved to the city of broken dreams: Berlin. After Palais Schaumburg split in '85, he discovered the joys of a one-man-band, released as Ready Made and started the Teutonic Beats label with a bunch of compilations that featured early works from the likes of Joerg Burger and Wolfgang Voigt (Kompakt), Basic Channel's Moritz von Oswald, Sun Electric and Westbam. Through the label, Fehlmann became friends with Dr. Alex Paterson of The Orb and later contributed to many releases of them, becoming a part-time member of the group. In the 1990s, Thomas was a resident at the legendary Tresor Berlin which led him to form 3MB together with Moritz von Oswald and Juan Atkins. Their Techno track "Jazz Is The Teacher" is still one of the greatest moment of the infamous Berlin-Detroit connection. In recent years, Fehlmann recorded mainly for the Kompakt and Plug Research imprints with albums like "Honigpumpe" stocking out. Certainly one of the silent giants of electronic music.
