Doornroosje  

The Doornroosje is a mecca of music venues. Originally founded in 1970, the two-roomed hall splits its programme between pioneering bands and forward-looking producers, usually catching them in their ascendence before they become world-renowned acts. The list of past performers reads like a who's who of people who have moulded the modern sound of rock and electronic music - from Joy Division to Company Flow to Pavement to Squarepusher, the programme has often blurred the boundaries between the two categories over nearly 40 years. The colourful walls of the Doornroosje poppodium look more Alice In Wonderland than Sleeping Beauty, but they definitely serve as a beacon to bring any errant party-goers back to the club safely. Our 'On The Floor!' series has been there to capture sets from Michael Mayer (Kompakt), Lawrence (Dial), James Ruskin (Blueprint/Tresor), and Aril Brikha (Kompakt/Peacefrog) as the Nijmegen cathedral shakes to the bass, and one of the most respected clubs in the Netherlands gets its swerve on.
