Radio 101

Time to bust out your notepads and highlighters - it's Radio 101. The history behind Croatia's Radio 101 is full of political protest and active demonstration, with communities coming together to support the station and stand up for what they believe in. Originally broadcasting in 1984, the station came into its own during a dispute with the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), resulting from the termination of their broadcast license in favour of a novelty radio station. In response, Zagreb's main square saw over 120.000 supporters join in protest. It helped Radio 101 stay on the air, and the protesters played their own part in the Zagreb political crisis of 1995. Now one of Croatia's most beloved stations, it boasts an audience of over 1.2 million, and continuously strives to balance entertainment with specialist music shows, as well as championing independent journalism and democratic values. Tune in every Friday night from eight to nine for the Red Bull Music Academy show. Zig and zagreb!
