Oppikoppi Festival

Oppikoppi Farm has been the location for one of South Africa's most-loved festivals since 1995. Back then, the focus was on the burgeoning South African rock scene of the late '90s. But while the intimate thousand-strong crowd has grown to a bigger 15.000, the intimate bush vibe remains. The variety of music has also expanded, with the festival's three stages now showcasing artists from a wide range of hip hop, drum 'n' bass, kwaito, jazz, punk, blues and many other styles. The name Oppikoppi is a slang term for 'op die koppie' or 'on the hill', and the festival team also nickname each year differently: playful names like Rock Paper Scissors and Strictly Come Twakkie have all helped develop the character of this festival, and put it firmly on the international map. RBMA Radio hosted our own stage for the 2010 edition (aka Sexy Crooked Teeth), and featured several Academy alumni as well as local acts. Time to go bush, and join the oppikoppi cats!
