SónarSound Tokyo

SónarSound Tokyo has been bringing their sweltering Mediterranean shimmy to Japan's capital since 2008, finding a tasty middle line between jamón serrano and maguro. In keeping with Sónar's open-armed cultural policy, the collaborative nature of Sónar and their Japanese counterpart Beatnik, means a truly unique festival, with all the best bits from east and west music culture. Set in Tokyo's AgeHa event space, deep in the reclaimed industrial district of Koto, SónarSound Tokyo brings the finest electronic artists together for two days at the start of April. Over fourty-eight hours, the festival showcases emerging musicians alongside established pioneers, hosts public workshops and experimental sound installations, as well as presenting the real star of the show: Tokyo city. While it's easy to forget how important a location can be, Sónar regulars will notice that the festival template is shaped into something quite different from what they're familiar to, suggesting that the real Sónar lies somewhere in-between these cities.
