SOS 4.8

SOS 4.8

Despite being only a youngster in festival years, the two-day SOS 4.8 on Spain's south-east coast has already set itself apart from the multitude of European raves with a considered and forward-looking program. As well as covering music, there is also a section dedicated to contemporary art, exhibiting work from prominent international artists on a theme, and also the 'Voices' section, which puts the mind upfront, as several renowned theorists and think-tank commanders discuss topics like the economy, music, radio and the online world, and the environment - and when these guys discuss the environment, they're not playing. SOS is an abbreviation of 'sostenible', meaning sustainable, and the festival is situated smack in the middle of 'Europe's Orchard' Murcia, world-famous for its long-standing agricultural traditions. Also the location for one of Spain's biggest universities, the SOS 4.8 combines mind, body, and spirit much better than most, and knows how to have a good time with a bit of brain-power too. On the main stages, the SOS packs a weighty music program, pitching international independents like Hot Chip, Crystal Castles, and Mexican Acid Queen next to some of Spain's up-and-coming producers and DJs. We cut our trip to the beach short, and got down the front to bring you those stage-dive moments. Salvation is at hand!
