Pygmalion Music Festival
Every September, Champaign-Urbana in Illinois becomes a mass of music lovers as the Pygmalion Music Festival takes control of venues all over the city. Showcasing local bands alongside the trailblazing international groups like Yo La Tengo, Wavves, Dan Deacon and others, Pygmalion pulls together a slice of the finest indie, hip hop, electronics and folk music and lays it out like a picnic. Since their inaugural year back in 2005, the festival has added more and more venues to its roster, and with preliminary shows throughout the summer to limber up for the main event, Pygmalion has turned into a year long concern. Despite taking its name from spangled UK stargazers Slowdive, the Pygmalion Festival has more in common with George Bernard Shaw's classic story of the class divide - and an uncut diamond is still a diamond. Like Eliza says I could've danced all night!
