Monegros

Monegros

If you ask most techno lovers what they think of when they close their eyes to a 4 x 4 soundtrack, they might answer hydraulic pumps, robotic machinery, futuristic autobahn vistas or perhaps even distant supernovas. But ask anyone who has attended the Monegros Desert Festival, and it's a different story altogether - peyote-induced visions of cacti, darting gheckos, and dusty, road trips to the centre of the psyche are in store for anyone who attempts the Spanish version of Fear and Loathing. Boasting 15 years of billing some of the biggest names in electronic music, the organisers descend on to the small town of Huesca and the surrounding arid terrain, and transform it into a techno wonderland. Around 60.000 visitors are expected to attend this blistering one day blowout in mid-July, piling on the sun creme as they dance their way around the five tents and three open air stages, getting their fill of the hundred or so artists that perform during those precious twenty-four hours. This is how festivals should be - a high-octane sensory overload and a tasty butifarra, all in an incredible setting, leaving you the rest of the summer to recover and figure out just what happened.
