Felabration

Felabration is the brainchild of Tundi Oshinibosi, who was inspired back in 2005 to create a platform to celebrate the legacy of Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Tunde set about building the annual event after seeing in how much higher regard Fela was held across Europe, America and Asia compared to his home country. While the initial concerts focused on Fela's music and invited guests such as African China, Femi Kuti and many others, now more emphasis is being put on Fela's impact outside music. This should reveal many more messages and subtexts from Fela in areas like sociology, politics and burning national issues, such as 'afrocentricism', the oppression of the masses and the underprivileged, nationalism, corruption and bad governance. These are the kind of topics that will get discussed at the symposium led by eminent Nigerians from various disciplines. The Felabration festival is held in the New Shrine in Lagos, around the time of Fela's birthday, and brings the spirit of the great man right up to date.
