Ether

Ether

Each year London's Southbank disintegrates slightly, as the two week-long Ether Festival takes over the Thames and explores the intersections of music, technology, cinema, and art. This is ether by name and by nature, as this series of concerts, talks, exhibitions, and films, treads the fine line between scientific rigour and spiritual unity, throwing together unique collaborations across different disciplines. Now in its ninth year, the Ether Festival has featured such iconoclastic pioneers as Kraftwerk, Dizzee Rascal, Jim O'Rourke, Johnny Greenwood, Thom Yorke, David Byrne, and many others. Alongside historical concerts and performances are featured talks and discussions, such as Brian Eno and Jon Hassell continuing their 30-year dialogue on culture and society. A feast for the eyes is not neglected either, and you could find the likes of producers like Château Flight or Mouse On Mars soundtracking evocative Soviet-era space films, before finding yourself in an interactive 3-D installation. As you walk back along the bank of the Thames after one of these concerts, and look across the water to the bustle of urban noise and headlights on the Victoria Embankment, you'd be forgiven for wondering whether the concert ever really ends.
