Kong

After the owners of Cafe King, one of the city's better-known nightspots housed in a former gas station, had to make way for a real estate project, rather than try and turn back the tide of gentrification, they opted to take their DIY renovate ethos to another part of town. Finding their new home in a former old fashioned cafe, they've transformed it into a spot for heads and barflys to refuel on the good music. With artists like Dani Siciliano, Beautiful Swimmers, and Peshay passing through in any one month, you know the programming is a mixture of quality club sonics whatever the tempo. The intimate dance floor is bathed in red neon, and the club soundtracks the interior designs of artists Fudo Lang, Alberto Troy and DJ Benjamin Röder, who are constantly pushing the synergy of design, video art, installations and electronic music. Keeping the aesthetics of the former cafe have also helped this club retain a unique atmosphere, from the long rosewood bar right down to the orange tiles of the original cafe. While not quite as out of place in Munich's city sprawl as its simian namesake, Kong definitely can be relied upon to play its part in the urban legends of "last nights session".
